Cycling in Cornwall

Apart from pleasant meanderings through country lanes and across the moors there are many miles of delightful cycle routes and trails throughout Cornwall, from the 180 miles of the Cornish Way to the famous Camel Trail starting at Padstow.

Little Music is a short distance from the coast-to-coast Mineral Tramways Project which links the harbour at Portreath on Cornwall's north coast with Devoran quay in the south. This 11 mile (17.5km) trail takes you on a tour through one of Cornwall's famous historic mining districts which was at the heart of Cornwall's copper production in the 19th century.

Cycling in Cornwall

It has been constructed along the route of two disused mineral tramways - the Portreath Tramroad and the Redruth and Chasewater Railway - which were built to take tin and copper ore to the ports and bring back coal for the steam-driven pumping engines. The main trail is clearly signposted along the whole of its route and is easily manageable by anyone of average fitness. It does not require the use of specialist cycles but an optional additional route is available for those mountain bikers who enjoy the challenge of a more demanding terrain.

At The Bike Barn near Portreath and Bissoe Bike Hire you can hire the bike and accessories of your choice to spend the day cycling off road along this picturesque cycle trail.

If you bring your own bikes there is room for under-cover storage in the summerhouse at Little Music Cottage.

We hired bikes and spent a great day cycling along the coast to coast trail. It is flat and really safe for young children."
